General Secretary Damodar Adhikari further said, 'We want to break the stereotypical prejudices that cooperative is now no more a family business or a means to misappropriation of members' fund by a handful of cunning people. It is a professional sector that neither supports nepotism nor welcomes favouritism. It only supports meritocracy.'

As the adage goes 'Adveristy breeds opportunity', Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Unions Ltd. (NEFSCUN), the guardian of financial cooperatives of the nation, has come up in an opportune time for those who are grief-stricken due to protracted dismal situation.
A noble intiative taken by the apex body targetting budding cooperators to hone their creative faculty and would-be cooperators to learn its science by acquiring Council for Techincal Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) recognized diploma course for cooperative managers is soon kicking off. It is lucrative for both in the sense that the entrants can upskill paving the way for better pay and perks and the latter can fill the void of pre-trained fresh minds in the business. Amid the looming threat of COVID-19 pandemic, when opportunities seem few and far between, NEFSCUN has brought the opportunity at the doorsteps. Although, there are pertinent issues of job security for employees and bleak opportunities for job seekers, NEFSCUN, believing strongly that there is always a silver lining amidst impediments of any scale, has officially announced applications for the course.
Those who are on the friend lists of NEFSCUN training centre and SACCOS KHABAR facebook pages, have already been fed with the application advertisements. The eligibility criteria is flexible enough in the sense that graduates in any discipline can take up the course. It's a crash course meaning helping students learn a lot of basic facts in a very short time. The 600 hours course comprises both theoretical and practical areas including the rich history of origin and development of national and international cooperative movements, saving and loan products and their management, PEARLS, account management, human resource and office management, use of digital innovations and improtance of quality assurance, etc.
Head cum Principal at the NEFSCUN Training Department, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina expressed his sheer joy that the academic program is the first of it kind in the history, initiated by a cooperative federation. 'The history is in the making' he said. Timilsina informed that the classes, as per the convenience of the participants, will run as soon as the lockdown eases, and by the end of this year NEFSCUN will be producing a handful of cooperative talents.'
The trained faculty of NEFSCUN will be mentoring the students whereas various cooperative leaders, expert CEOs, and line government authorities will also contribute as guest lecturers which is cherry on the cake. As per the curriculum demand, various trainers will take the classes in the areas of their expertise providing students a chance to get the flavour of different tutors rather than forcing limited teachers. The thorough mode of pragmatic learning is accompanied by theoritical fundamentals as the present scenario of cooperative sector is that staffers lack elementary theoretical base. Upon successful completion of the course, manifold opportunities are sure to unock. The course is time friendly too, as the classes are scheduled to run early morning which does not steal the busy office schedule of working ones. To ease the finacial burden, there is the facility of fee payment in an installment basis. Some other preparatory works are going in full swing.
Undoubtedly, we have abundance of manpower but the long quest of cooperative sector is skilled manpower as professionalism is a key to any business. Exploring new horizon, NEFSCUN wants to address the very essence of professionalism in the cooperative enterprise. And it is starting in the nick of time to give hope to people that sustainable opportunities are there to stick to job market if pre-requisite skills are academically brushed up.
NEFSCUN's General Secretary and Coordinator of Training and Education Sub-Committee Damodar Adhikari told that the principal aim of the Cooperative Mangers' Diploma Course is to cater to the dearth of the crafted cooperative managers by stamping a tight slap to those who dare to point fingers at the sector. He continued, 'We want to give a strong message that even during low and down period like this, NEFSCUN is tirelessly working to explore opportunities for job hungry talents.'
Some flagrant examples are there to prove Adhikari's claims as well. Amid the concurrent crisis, Kathmandu Savings and Credit Cooperative Union (KASCUN) has appointed a new CEO who is officiating from Asar 1. Likewise, CYC SACCOS of Baglung is hiring staffers and similar vacancies are in the offing.
'We want to allure those academically sound and enthusiastically eager minds and shape them up in such a fashion that they turn out ready to contribute to the cooperative sector with their optimum potential.' In order to cope up with the international demand to upskill human resource in the sector, capable of taking forth the core doctorines of good governance and finacial prudence, we had long planned to launch CTEVT affiliated short course. Finally we got the approval and are quick starting' General Secretary Adhikari opined.
Head cum Principal at the NEFSCUN Training Department, Ganesh Prasad Timilsina expressed his sheer joy that the academic program is the first of it kind in the history, initiated by a cooperative federation. 'The history is in the making' he said. Timilsina informed that the classes, as per the convenience of the participants, will run as soon as the lockdown eases, and by the end of this year NEFSCUN will be producing a handful of cooperative talents.' Principal Timilsina said, 'The other significant work NEFSCUN is planning to do is to creating a Human Resource Bank which will have human capital as its asset that other cooperative organizations and federations can also utilize as per their need.
Principal Timilsina said, 'As soon as the online advertisement surfaced on facebook pages, numerous people have shown their keen interest.' He said,' Frankly speaking, we were slightly apprehesive before coming with a unanimous management decision to announce application during this pandemic, anticipating if the response might be slightly skeptical, but now we proudly say we are overwhelmed by the flooding of response.' NEFSCUN is over the moon from the early facebook feedbacks that the allocated seat number is very less. But less is more at this juncture. NEFSCUN has already got approval to run two other courses namely 'Saving and Credit Mobilization' and 'Receptionist cum Cahier' which are also starting soon.
NEFSCUN is taking a cautious step to embark upon a sustained expedition. So, let this maiden initiative be a massive success and NEFSCUN will by all means, accomodate the thurst of numerous minds to be prolific professionals in the cooperative sector. Moreover, it is a challenge to NEFSCUN too that the outcome of the first batch must set the standard so high that they not only gain competitive advantage over others but also add the elements of encourgament and motivation to the ones awaiting their turn to be in the next batch.
General Secretary Adhikari told that NEFSCUN is even pondering over decentralizing the program so that candidates out of Kathmandu vallyey and adjacent districts can also benefit, focusing at the provincial level. Moreover, it is essential to make distant learning possible as the recently revised training and education policy of NEFSCUN clearly mentions the provision of commencing remote and e-learning. Principal Timilsina said, 'In the worst case scenario, we will start classes in the virtual fashion as well. All options are available and we are working with all our sincere efforts to fulfilling the long desolation in this direction' Principal Timilsina pronounced.
Clap for cooperative.
